Lao UXO Says More People Die From Unexploded Ordnances This Year - 2004-07-20


Unexploded ordnances left over from the Indochina War has caused more casualties throughout Laos so far this year, with at least 39 dead and 74 wounded, compared to 15 deaths and 19 injuries for the same period of last year. Meanwhile, the mosquito-borne dengue fever has killed three and infected another 1,200 across the country.

On the bright side, Oxiana Resources says it has exported 6.3 tons of gold, worth $41 million, from its Sepone mine for the first half of this year.
