The U-S led coalition in Iraq has formally handed over power to an interim Iraqi government-- a transfer of sovereignty that had been scheduled to take place on July 1st. The inerim government was formally sworn in today ahead of schedule in an apparent bid to foil insurgent attacks designed to prevent the handover.
NATO leaders meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, have agreed to help train Iraq's new security force, in response to a request from the incoming interim Iraqi government.
Top officials from 23 countries are expected to meet this week in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, to discuss security threats in the region, including the North Korean nuclear crisis.
