President Bush hailed Turkey's government today as a model of secular Muslim democracy in the turbulent Middle East. Meeting in Ankara with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan ahead of a NATO summit in Istanbul, Mr. Bush said Turkey has set an example for its neighbors on how to be a Muslim country, and at the same time a country which embraces democracy and rule of law and freedom.

Military officials in Iraq say twin car-bomb explosions in Hillah, a town south of Baghdad, have caused heavy casualties. Iraqi police and hospitals say the blasts killed at least 23 people late Saturday. Nearly 60 others are being treated for their wounds.

Ten of thousands of angry Palestinian mourners marched in a funeral procession in Nablus today, paying their last respects to seven militants killed this week during an Israeli operation in the West Bank city.
