Deadly bombings hit central Baghdad and northern Iraq as United Nations envoy Lakhdar Brahimi was naming the country's next president. Iraqi police say at least 10 people killed in a car bomb blast at a Kurdish political party in Baghdad.

Pakistan's government is warning of stern action to end continuing violence in Karachi, following a deadly bombing at a Shi'ite mosque Monday.Officials say the death toll from the bombing has risen to 19 as three more people died of the wounds overnight.

The United Nations human rights envoy for Burma says the ruling military junta's constitutional talks are doomed to failure unless significant changes are made.
