Lao authorities say the two explosions in a parking lot near the Friendship Bridge were not caused by bombs but by firecrackers during an official celebration marking the 10th anniversary of the first bridge over the Mekong river linking Laos and Thailand.
Meanwhile, an anti-government group called the Lao People's Democratic party issued a statement rejecting Laotian authorities' claim that the April 2 explosion was caused by a drug addict who committed suicide. The statement says the man was a member of the group who killed himself in protest against the communist government.
