Malaria Vaccines - 2004-05-11

Malaria is a very serious disease that kills more children under the age of five than any other disease. To find a way to prevent this, malaria vaccines are being tested on adults and children alike in many countries in Africa.

Dr. Carter Dibbs who works on the Malaria Vaccine Development Program for the U.S.A.I.D says the parasite thata causes malaria is much more complex than other organisms.

The vaccine is successful if fifty percent of the people who receive it do not show any signs of malaria for one year.
