A 29-year-old man has been killed in the explosion of a time-bomb in the Lao capital Vientiane, but there is a dispute over the victim's motives. Local radio reports quote police in Vientiane as suggesting the victim, who died late Sunday, was a bomber trying to set off an explosion in an attempt to undermine the country's communist government. But a Lao Foreign Ministry spokesman says the man had no political motive and was only trying to commit suicide. Sunday's explosion was the latest in a series of incidents that analysts say are attempts at destabilizing the Lao government.
