Israeli police stormed the al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem after Muslim prayers today. Authorities and witnesses say Israeli police entered the square outside the mosque, one of Islam's holiest sites, after Palestinians began throwing stones at police and Jewish worshiping at the nearby Western Wall. Police fired plastic bullets, stun grenades and tear gas in an attempt to disperse the stone throwers.

Voting in Sri Lanka's parliamentary election has ended. There was no reports of violence, as authorities deployed more than sixty-thousand police and military personnel in vulnerable provinces to ensure security.

Leaders of China's National People's Congress began a meeting today to review political reforms in Hong Kong, just hours after police in the territory forcibly broke up an anti-Beijing protest.
