Laos Must Act Now to Avert HIV/AIDS Crisis - 2004-03-18

The United Nations is calling attention to the plight of women in the Mekong region facing HIV/AIDS. UNAIDS says the infection rates among women in China, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam are rising faster then men.

At the same time, the UN calls on Laos to act now to avert HIV/AIDS crisis. Women in Laos are at an unacceptably high risk of contracting HIV and AIDS, but a crisis can be averted if action is taken immediately, UN experts say.
