UN Takes Action On Racial Discrimination in Laos - 2003-09-04

Mr. Stephen Vang of United Lao/Hmong Congress for Democracy in Wisconsin testified in Geneva last month at the UN Committee on Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which adopted a resolution deploring Laos' discrimination against the Hmong minority people in Northern Laos.

Mr. Vang told VOA that he was pleased that finally the UN committee is beginning to realize that there is a serious act of discrimination against minority people in Laos, and he hopes that the committee's resolution urging the Lao communist government to halt immediately acts of violence against the Hmong people in Laos and to ensure that these people have access to adequate food and medical care will succeed.
