Plight of Laotians Introduced on Capitol Hill - 2002-10-16


On September 19, 2002 the U.S. Congress hosted the Laotian-American Congressional Policy Conference.

Members from Congress, Congressional staff, U.S. policymakers, diplomats, UN staff, non-profit representatives, staff from the UNHCR and business leaders gathered in Washington, D.C. to discuss emerging issues pertaining to Laotian-Americans and the greater Lao community.

The conference also disucssed joint North-Korean intelligence operations, the status of disappeared student leaders and Laotian-American citizens, ongoing religious persecution, and the military crackdown against ethnic minorities.
