Laos and China reaffirm that they will continue to closely cooperate in mass media development as China hands over a new television, built with its assistance, to Lao authorities.

Recently, Chinese Ambassador, on behalf of his government handed over the new Channel 3 National Television station, located at Ban Sivilay, Saythany district, Vientiane capital, to Lao government.

This $ 10 million grant television station is given to Laos with aim to improve the television signal and sound transmission system so it can produce clearer pictures and cover double size of the area that is covered by old Lao Channel 3 television station, which has begun to operate since 1994 and has capacity in sending signal only 10 KW. With Chinese government's assistance, this new television station, besides having the capacity in sending 20 KW of television signal, it also is equipped by a complete new modern equipment system as well as trained personnel or technicians.

Laos considers that this is a valuable assistance from China since it will enable Laos to not only use this television station on time when it hosts the 25th SEA Games in this December, but also to link to Chinese television stations.

Moreover, Lao leaders believe that the cooperation in mass media development field will result in a closer relation between their country and China as they think that the information from Chinese mass media will be useful for the development in Laos.
