Lao authorities reported that Typhoon Ketsana, which hit southern Laos last week, claimed 14 deaths and caused over 150 people missing.
Mr. Davong Xayasane, Deputy-Head of the Disaster Preparedness and Relief Division of the Lao Red Cross Society (LRC), confirmed that Ketsana tropical storm, which passed through the southern part of Laos last week killed 14 people in Attapeu province and over 150 people in neighboring provinces missing.
At this stage, the Lao authorities still could not assess the exact damage caused by this deadly storm to people's lives and properties in the area due to lacking of fund and personnel.
Meanwhile, Mr. Pheng Piampanya of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, said the measurements of water levels both in Mekong river and in its tributaries, indicated that this year Laos will face less serious flooding than last year.
