Eliz: Welcome once again to "Culture Tips" with Gary Engleton.
Today, Gary will summarize some important tips about negotiations.
Gary....
Gary: Yes. First of all, you have to remember that you are building a long-term relationship.
You should make sure that your agreement is fair to both sides.
To do this, you really need to know what the other side wants and needs.
You need to understand what they are asking for and why.
And, it's very important to understand a proposal before reacting to it.
You should always paraphrase ideas to check your understanding.
Finally, always ask where the numbers come from and check them.
Eliz: Gary, thanks for all of the great suggestions.
They will certainly be helpful to our listeners when they use English in a negotiation.

Eliz: False. It's important to understand both what they want and why they want it.
