American Artist Falls in Love with Laos after His First Visit

Gabriel Kuperman grew up in Washington DC Metropolitan Areas but went for school in New York. He received both Bachelor and Master degrees in Digital Media which emphasized in documentary film. Gabriel took up photography as hobby for the past ten years capturing people's faces where he had traveled to.

Gabriel loves to travel and to learn about other cultures and traditions. During his recent trip to Thailand, Gabriel has a chance to visit Lao, Cambodia and those neighboring countries. He told VOA that "I've a friend in Thailand and my trip to Thailand was about four weeks, an afterthought was that why not go to Laos, Cambodia. Once I reached Laos, I would not able to leave because there is something about Laos, its cultures and its people, especially people of Luang Prabang. I fall in love with the country at the first time I was there."

After the first trip to Laos, Gabriel considers moving to Luang Prabang, and to seek for a job and to continue his photography of Laos. Currently, Gabriel is in Luang Prabang, where he enjoys so much. "I am not a religion person, but something about Luang Prabang that makes me comfortable and wants to live there," Gabriel explains. Gabriel used the word "Magical" when described Luang Prabang

Gabriel plans to stay in Luang Prabang for about a year or two or even longer. Beside his photography that he loves, he also volunteers to teach English with the Big Brother Mouse organization for Lao students. He wants to travel to other parts of Laos as well to capture the faces of Lao people. "I want my photography to represent the beautiful and harmonious life of the Lao people, of their cultures and traditions. I want my photography to show to the world of what Luang Prabang and other parts of Laos have to offer. At the same time, I don't want the country to be spoiled by influx of tourists," Gabriel concludes.
