The administration of the Laotian capital city of Vientiane announced during a recent party plenary session that the city was able to attract some 183 foreign investments worth over 2,200 billion kips or over 224 million dollars in the fiscal year 2006-07, an increase of 35% from the year before.
Vientiane also increased its gross domestic product to 10,426 million kips, or a per capita GDP of almost 14 million kips or 1,400 dollars, the highest in 32 years and highest in the country.
It was reported that tourism and the service sector experienced the highest growth rate of 39%, but constituted only a 23.8% share of the GDP, while the industry and construction sectors take up more than 50%.
