Saly: Lao Opening
Kathy: Okay, I’m ready for riddle number two.
Max: All right.
Here we go: Why do birds fly south in the winter?
Kathy: Why do birds fly south in the winter?
Oh, no, I don’t know.
I don’t know the answer.
Max: Yes...this is a hard one.
Birds fly south in the winter, because it is too far to walk.
Kathy: Too far to walk?
Oh, I see. They fly because it’s too far to walk.
That was difficult.
Max: Well, Kathy, don’t feel bad.
Riddles are fun, but almost impossible to answer.
You did very well!
Kathy: Thanks, Max.
Larry: A Question for You
Saly(Lao): A Question for You
Max: Now here’s a question for you.
Larry: Listen for the bell, then say your answer.
Saly(Lao): Listen for the bell, then say your answer.
Max: Do you think riddles are fun?
(pause for answer)
Max: Hmmm. OK.
Larry: OK... and we’re off the air.
Max: You look tired, Larry.
What did you do this weekend?
Larry: Oh, some of my relatives were visiting.
Kathy: That’s nice. Close relatives?
Larry: Yes, my brother and his wife.
They came for the weekend.
I showed them the city.
This was their first visit to Washington, D.C., and they wanted to see everything!
Kathy: So you were their tour guide.
Larry: Yes. I love being a tour guide.
It’s fun to show people around Washington, but it’s tiring.
First, my wife and I took them to the Air and Space Museum.
Then we walked all the way from the Capitol to the Washington Monument.
And after that we went to the Washington Zoo to see the animals.
Kathy: That sounds great!
Larry: Yes, it was. They had a great time!
Saly: Overview in Lao the story interlude

Kathy: Well, our time is up. So until next time...
This is Kathy.
Max: And this is Max.
Kathy: Good luck in your English studies!
Kathy and Max: Good-bye.
