Laos says the majority of the Hmong refugees in Thailand lie about their CIA connections, so that the U.S. and other countries would accept them for resettlement.
Laos' Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman, Yong Chanthalangsy, says the refugees made stories up. He gave an example of a Hmong family among a group of 53 who were repatriated to Laos in late 2006. He said, not long after their return, that family produced proof of their former address so that they could return to live there.
