Laos Prepares to Welcome Back Hmong Refugees from Thailand

Laos is making preparations to resettle the Hmong refugees who will be sent back from Thailand. The Lao government spokesman says some will be allowed to return to families and relatives, while others will be resettled in the Kasi area of Luang Prabang and in the provinces of Borikhamsay and Xiengkhuang, where authorities are building housing and developing arable lands them.

Thai authorities said they are currently gathering personal data of the approximately 7,700 Hmong refugees that they have evacuated from the makeshift camp along the road into Ban Huay Nam Khao to a new camp two kilometers away. And when that is done, they will start sending those refugees back to Laos, probably within the next two months.
