The Lao-American community in the Washington area takes part in the Smithsonian Museum's July 4th activities by displaying a replica of Laos' rocket or Bang Fai in a traditional procession.
The July 4th activities are parts of the on-going 2007 Smithsonian Folklife Festival under the theme, Mekong River: Connecting Cultures, during which the diverse cultures of four Mekong river countries,
namely Vietnam, Kampuchea, Laos, Thailand, and the Chinese province of Yunnan, will be presented to the American public through craft demonstrations, dance and musical performances, and hand-on activities.
A delegation from the Lao PDR will demonstrate Lao cooking.
