The Sixth Legislature of the Lao National Assembly ended its third ordinary session on July 3rd, after a two-week meeting. Before adjourning, it approved the governement's reshuffle of five cabinet posts, proposed without prior notice by Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh.
Among those involved in the reshuffle is Finance Minister Chansy Phosikhan, who will become the Governor of Vientiane, while the outgoing Governor, Mr. Somphet Thipmala, will be Deputy Minister of National Defense. Deputy Finance Minister Somdy Douangdy has been promoted to his former boss's position.
The Sixth Legislature also approved the 2007-08 socio-economic and budget plans, in addition to five laws. In his closing speech, Mr. Thongsing Thammavong, president of the Lao National Assembly, called on his fellow lawmakers and government employees to honestly and actively implement all the measures passed by the Assembly in the best interests of the country.
