Lao officials assert that it is safe to travel on Route 13-North because troops have been routinely deployed along the highway to provide security.
The statement is in response to the U.S. Embassy's recent travel advisory, warning of danger and forbidding American citizens to travel on Route 13-North, from Vang Vieng to Kasi, because of reports of renewed fightings in that area.
Lao authorities say alleged reports of fightings were fabrications by bad elements intending to discredit their country.
