Laos: More Foreign Assistance Needed to Cope with Bird Flu

Lao authorities say foreign assistances, both financial and technical, are much needed to help them cope with bird flu. Even though Laos has already received more than 8 million dollars in foreign aids, officials say at least 50 million dollars more is needed to help Laos fight bird flu effectively from now to 2020.

The H5N1 strain of the virus have recently been reported in many areas of Laos including Vientiane. Since earlier this month, two women have died possibly from bird flu.

Laos is surrounded by China to the north, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the south and Thailand to the west. All have been affected by the Avian flu.

Vietnam has recorded 42 deaths, Thailand 17 deaths and Cambodia has seen six deaths from bird flu.
