Over 50 Million Euro Needed to Support Lao Hmongs in Thailand

Thai military authorities met with representatives of Doctors Without Borders from France to discuss action plans for maintaining security and providing assistance to Lao Hmongs at Ban Huay Nam Khao in 2007, and for moving them to another location early next year.

Thai officials say in the past year, Doctors Without Borders has spent over 50 million Euro to provide health care and food assistance to the refugees. So that much will be needed for next year, while the cost of relocating them will be the responsibility of the Thai government.

They also say the number of the Hmong refugees living along the road leading to Ban Huay Nam Khao has increased to over 8,000 now.
