In less than six years, Chinese investments in the Lao PDR has topped $700 million, and have diversified from the agricultural sector to mining and hydro-power.
Foreign investments in Laos since 1988 has an aggregate value of more than $8 billion, with Thailand ranking number one on the list. But Thai invesments concentrate in the hydro-power sector, which has not yet translated into revenues for the Lao government, unlike Chinese investments which increasingly bring in more money into Laos.
