Thai authorities propose to extend a single-visa policy to all foreign tourists wishing to visit ACMECS countries with the aim to attract more visitors. Thailand already has such agreement with Cambodia. The other members of the five-nation Ayeyawady(Irrawaddy)-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy grouping include Laos, Vietnam, and Burma.
About 25 million tourists visited the ACMECS region last year, of which 17 millions spent time mainly in Thailand. The Thai Foreign Minister says he believes the single visa policy will lure more tourists to other ACMECS nations.
