Lao Women's Union Helps Lao Girls Find Work in Tourism Industry

In addition to providing microcredit to poor households to start small businesses in rural areas, the Lao Women's Union is helping Lao girls find employment in the country's developing tourism to keep them from falling victims of human trafficking.

The Lao Women's Union representative in Luang Prabang says her chapter has helped put girls in the services and tourism industries to bring them out of poverty and the risk of becoming preys of human traffickers.

However, VOA's Bangkok stringer says involving girls in the tourism industry might eventually push them into prostitution.
