Laos Today: Laos Suffering Severe Weathers

Since the beginning of August, Laos has suffered severe weather conditions with some northern provinces, especially Luang Namtha which is in the high elevation and had never been flooded before, now facing severe floods while in the south, Saravane Province is facing both drought and floods, hampering the wet season rice plantings.

Almost ten villages in Luang Namtha have been flooded. Many roads have been destroyed, including the main road leading to Muang Sing. In Oudomxay, residents of Muang Bang and Muang Houn have suffered the same fate.

Deforestation is believed to be the main cause of such severe climate in the country.
