Laos Today: Thailand to Repatriate Ban Huay Nam Khao Hmongs ASAP

Thailand's Prime Minister has entrusted the Internal Security Operations Command to look for ways to solve the problem of the more than 6,000 Hmong refugees at Houi Nam Khao village as soon as possible by either repatriating them to Laos or resettling them abroad.

Some 140 soldiers, police, and local officials are overseeing the registration and screening of those Hmongs in order to separate former CIA soldiers and families from former residents of Wat Tham Krabok and the new arrivals from Laos.

Thai officials say they will discuss the matter with Lao, U.N. and U.S. officials and try to convince them to take the Hmongs back or resettle them in third countries.
