NT2 investors say the construction of the Nam Theun 2 dam has been progressing satisfactorily in all aspects since it began a year ago. They expressed confidence that the US$1.2 billion- hydropower project will help Lao economy both during the construction period and afterwards.
Project officials say construction has been completed for the reservoir, water gates, the dam foundation as well as the Nam Theun river diversion channel. Construction is going on for the power station access tunnel.
However, so far only 52 household have been relocated, out of the more than 1200 households to be affected by the dam construction.
Nevertheless, investors are confident the project will be completed by the year 2008 as planned.
