Afghanistan Fighting: Afghan police are hunting for Taleban insurgents after more than 100 people were killed in two of the most violent days.

US-UN-Torture: The U.N. Committee Against Torture says the United States should close its prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as part of an effort to "eradicate" torture by its own personnel.

Asia-Typhoon: Chinese state media say the death toll from typhoon Chanchu has risen to at least 21 people in the southeastern provinces of Guangdong and Fujian.

Indonesia-Suharto: Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono says the condition of former leader Suharto is "very serious."
