Voters in Communist Laos went to the polls Sunday to elect the 6th National Assembly. Some 2.7 million eligible voters out of a population of around six million cast their ballots to choose 115 new members from among 175 candidates.
It is not clear when official results will be announced although the new legislature is due to convene by May 8 or 9 to confirm a new government, with new party Secretary General Choummaly Sayasone expected to replace Khamtay Siphandone as the nation's new President.
