Laos Today: Laos Gives Top Priority to Communication Cooperation with Neighbors

Laos says it considers the development of communication and transportation a vital element of its economic development, and thus has made every effort to mobilize funds into improving its infrastructures.

It also places great importance on cooperation in this area with its GMS neighbors to build communication and transportation links between member nations. Two of the links being built are Route 3 or the North-South Corridor, linking Thailand's Chiangrai province to China's Yunnan via Laos' Bokeo and Luangnamtha provinces, and Route 9 or the East-West Corridor, linking Vietnam's Danang to the Thai town of Mukdahan via Laos' Savannakhet province by way of the second Friendship Bridge between Laos and Thailand.

A third bridge linking Khammouane and Nakornphanom, which Laos and Thailand have recently agreed upon, is expected to be built as soon as funding can be secured from international financial institutions.
