Thailand’s Prime Minister confirms that his government and the French government will help Laos build a railway linking Thailand and Laos, but that Thailand will help with the part linking the Thai town of Nongkhai to Laos’ Tha Nalaeng port only.
The Thai government has approved 197 million Bahts for this project. 30% of which will be a grant, while the rest will be an interest-free loan which Laos will have 30 years to pay back.
The railway will cross the Mekong on the Friendship Bridge from Nongkhai to Tha Nalaeng on the Lao side.
