Lao authorities express confidence that they will be able to completely prevent future illegal opium poppy fields from popping up after declaring to the world last month that Laos is finally opium free.
At the same time, they appeal to the international community for continued support in their fight to eradicate poverty in Laos. 30% of the almost 6 million Lao population still lives in abject poverty.
