Lao workers who want to work legally in Thailand must pay a fee of up to 15,500 Baht in exchange for a daily wage of 145 Baht under the Labor Employment and Development Agreement between Laos and Thailand.
Since the beginning of 2006 when the two countries started to implement the accord, two groups of Lao workers have gone to find employment in Thailand.
Meanwhile, those who are already working in Thailand but have not registered with Thai authorities must pay a penalty between 10,000 - 50,000 Baht if they are caught.
