Vientiane administration officials plan to promote the manufacturing sector in the capital city area to raise the residents’ per capita income to no less than US$1,300 per annum by the year 2010, from the current annual rate of approxiamtely $953.
The plan is part of a five-year socio-economic development plan that administration officials have approved for the period 2006-2010, which aims at pushing for an annual economic growth of no less than 11%.
Vientiane authorities also say they expect the economy to grow at a rate of 11% for the period 2005-06, with an average per capita income of US$1,092, which will make Vientiane the first city in the nation to have a per capita income above the $1,000 level.
