The prime ministers of Laos and Thailand, together with the French ambassador to Laos, laid the cornerstone for Laos' giant Nam Theun 2 hydropower dam in Khammouane province. The controversial project is expected to be completed and exporting over 990 megawatts of electricity to Thailand, beginning 2009. Laos expect to receive over one billion dollars in revenues and concession fee annually from the project, is confident that the Nam Theun 2 will help lift it out of poverty.
