Laos Today: Laos to Start Registering Foreign Labor Working in the Country

Lao authorities say, beginning next year, they will start registering foreign workers in Laos as well as Lao workers who would like to go and look for employment abroad.

Meanwhile, Thailand says it will have to import between 500 to 700 thousands more foreign workers from Laos, Cambodia, and Burma, to address the problem of severe labor shortage it is currently experiencing.

Thai authorities say, as part of this problem-solving, they will also take a more flexible approach to deal with the foreign workers who are already in the country but have not officially register. Thailand needs about 1.7 million foreign workers, but less than 8 hundred thousands have registered.
