Members of the 5th Lao National Assembly, which has been holding its 8th ordinary session since Oct. 7, say the government’s performances of its 2004-05 socio-economic development fell short of its goals, leading to continuous problems in important areas namely logging, drug trafficking as well as social ills such as prostitution.
The Lao government, however, expresses confident that the nation’s GDP will grow at least 8% in the next fiscal year, and that per capita income will rise from the current $491 to $529.
Meanwhile, Laos Prime Minister, Boungnang Vorachith, says his nation aims to develop itself to be the battery of the Southeast Asian region, linking all ASEAN members.
