10/02/05 World News: Indonesian President Says Suicide Bombers Responsible for Bali Attacks


Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono says suicide bombers were likely behind the three attacks in Bali that killed 26 people and wounded more than 100. Mr. Yudhoyono told a news conference after arriving in Bali today that body parts of the suspected bombers had been founded at the three sites.

The U.S. military says troops in western Iraq have killed at least eight insurgents in an advanced through a region close to the Syrian border. About 1,000 U.S. soldiers launched a new campaign Saturday, in and around the village of Sadah in the restive Euphrates Vallay, in an attempt to drive Al-Qaida-linked insurgents out of the border region.

Israel has suspended its offensive into the Gaza Strip following a lull in rocket attacks by Palestinian militants. Israeli security officials said today the operation, which included a series of air strikes on weapons factories, storage facilities and launching areas, achieved its goals of weakening militants' ability to attack Israel from Gaza.
