09/03/05 Troops Deliver Relief Supplies to New Orleans


National Guard convoys have arrived in New Orleans with food, water and medicine for many thousands of hurricane and flood victims who are still stranded and homeless in the famous southern Louisiana city.

First Lady Laura Bush has toured a convention center in Lafayette, Louisiana.

The American Red Cross says it had received almost 200-million dollars in gifts and pledges for relief from Hurricane Katrina.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says the United States "has turned down no offers" of emergency assistance coming from around the world.

Other news: President Bush is to meet his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in Washington later this month for talks on bilateral and global issues.

Hospital officials in Afghanistan say an autopsy has confirmed that two bodies found in the southern part of the country are those of missing Japanese tourists.
