Laotian-Canadian Community to Hold Kataw Vay Tournament in Quebec, Canada(7/23/05).


The Laotian-Canadian Community in Quebec, Canada, has been practicing and playing Kataw Vay(Sepak Takraw) sport for the past decade. This ancient sport has caught the attention of many people from all over Canada and the U.S. and brought them to the Quebec area to witness its true beauty and exotic play style. For the love of this authentic and unique sport, the Laotian-Canadian Community has set up an organization to promote, preserve, and keep this tradition alive.

The first international Kataw Vay Tournament, organized by the Laotian-Canadian Kataw Vai Association on August 23, 2005, is expected to bring together hundreds of participants from various communities such as Pakistanian, Filipino, Canadian, Vietnamese, Chinese and Laotian-American from Minnesota, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Ohio. Mr. Anong Phanphengdy, President of the Laotian-Canadian Kataw Vai Sports Association talks to VOA about his association and the purpose of the tournament.
