Elephant Population in Laos on the Decline

Lao authorities announce a wild elephant conservation project covering four provinces in southern Laos, aiming at stopping the decline in elephant population in that area, where the number of elephants has steadily dwindled due to poaching.

Thai environmentalists say there are now less than 1,500 elephants left in the four- province region. Poachers kill elephants for their tusks.
