06/09/05 World News: Israel to Implement Gaza Pullout Despite Growing Opposition


Israel's highest court has upheld the government's plan to withdraw from all of the Gaza Strip and four small West Bank settlements.

North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Kim Gye Gwan told U.S.-based ABC News Wednesday that his country has enough nuclear bombs to defend against a U.S. attack. But he added Pyongyang has no intention of attacking the United States.

The United States and South Korea have signed a new cost-sharing agreement for funding the American military presence on the peninsula. And, for the first time Seoul's share of the expense has been cut.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) says Burma's military government continues to kill, rape and displace ethnic Karen civilians in its fight against insurgents. In a report released today (Thursday), the US-based rights organization says the government also loots villages and conscripts residents - including children - for forced labor.

A top Singapore official says Southeast Asia leaders believe they have worked out a deal with the military rulers of Burma over the chairmanship of the 10-nation Association of South East Asian Nations.
