The World Bank is due to decide tomorrow (3/31) whether to approve loan guarantee for Laos’ Nam Theun 2 hydro-electric power dam. The Bank and Lao authorities have said that Laos needs the controversial US$1.2 billon project to lift the country out of poverty, and maintain that they have done everything to meet all the requirements and the studies made on the social and environmental impacts of the dam met all the international standards.
