Thailand: No Chance of Resettlement in Third Country for Hmongs from Laos

Thai authorities say the more than 8,500 Hmong refugees at Ban Huay Nam Khao in Thailand's Phetchabun Province have no chance to resettle in a third country because no nation has offered to take them.

Laos is the only country that has openly said it is willing to take back those Hmongs if they are proven to be from Laos. And Lao officials insist the issue of the Ban Huay Nam Khao Hmongs is an immigration one and no international organization or third country has the right to interfere.

Thai officials are currently screening and re-registering the Hmongs at Ban Huay Nam Khao to satisfy the requests by Laotian authorities who will use the information to verify the Hmongs' nationality.
