National Police week started with a presidential pen-stroke from John F. Kennedy in 1962. It began as one day – May 15 – to honor the nation’s peace officers, but has since become a week-long event around the country. In Washington, tens of thousands of law-enforcement officers from around the world gathered to share a spirit of camaraderie and to honor those killed in the line of duty. Arash Arabasadi reports for VOA from Washington.
