U.S. President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, federal appeals court judge Merrick Garland, instantly became the focus of a partisan battle in the Republican-controlled Senate, where his consideration, much less his confirmation, is an open question. As VOA’s Michael Bowman reports, Republicans continue to argue that the next president who will be elected later this year should choose the successor to Justice Antonin Scalia, who died last month.
