Thai authorities are planning to tighten control over the internet, creating a single international access point so they can better monitor content. VOA Correspondent Steve Herman reports from Bangkok on what is being called Thailand's own Great Firewall.
One of the first decisions of Thailand's new minister of information and communication technology was to hire a mystic to chase the ghosts out of his office.

Thailand, since last year, has been run by a military junta which took power in a coup. It has severely curtailed freedom of expression, stepped up digital surveillance and blocked more overseas web sites.

"One problem we see is that in this current junta government all the decision-making process for many of the projects that affect the public very broadly hardly have any kind of public hearing."
There are now indications Thai authorities — facing a backlash on social media — are having second thoughts.
But many here doubt that the army generals will retreat from trying to more effectively patrol Thai citizen's activities in cyberspace.
